UPHOLSTERY
General Care
• Periodically rotate your cushions and toss pillows to evenly distribute wear and ensure long-lasting comfort.
• Avoid placing your upholstery in direct sunlight or near sources of heat or moisture to help prevent fading over time.
• Vacuum your upholstery occasionally using designated attachments.
• Fabric pilling over time is normal. You can occasionally use a fabric (or “sweater”) shaver to gently remove pills, and pilling should gradually decrease as loose fibers are removed.
• We recommend trusting professional cleaners for thorough cleanings of your upholstery as needed.
Cleaning Your Upholstery
Depending on the fabric selected for your upholstery, a standard cleaning code may be designated, which indicates how to best spot clean it.
Upholstery Cleaning Codes
• W: Spot clean using water and water-based upholstery shampoo or foam cleaners only.
• S: Spot clean using water-free cleaning solvents only. Do not use water or dry clean.
• SW: Spot clean using distilled water or water-based cleaning agents. Foam from a mild detergent or mild dry-cleaning solvents can also be used.
• X: Vacuum or lightly brush using a non-metallic brush to remove overall soiling. Do not use water, foam, liquid cleaning agents, or dry-cleaning solvents.
General Cleaning Guidelines
• If using an upholstery cleaner, make sure to follow all instructions carefully and do not over apply. We recommend pre-testing for color loss and compatibility by applying a small amount to a hidden section of fabric.
• If mixing cleaners, dilute the mixture using distilled water. Be careful not to over-saturate your upholstery.
• When spot cleaning your upholstery, use an absorbent, undyed cloth and a blotting motion. Work from the outside towards the middle of the soiled area to prevent rings.
• Never use a hard-bristled brush on your upholstery and avoid scrubbing or over-rubbing fabrics, as this could damage fibers.
Caring For Specialty Fabrics & Leathers
Leather
• Our artisan-finished leather can be spot cleaned by using a dry cloth to remove dust and dirt.
• You can also wipe down your leather upholstery using an undyed cloth dampened with distilled water. This will add moisture back into the leather and help it look its best.
• Leather can be cleaned thoroughly using wax-free leather cleaner and conditioner.
• Clean any oil-based spills from leather by blotting with a clean, undyed, soft cloth.
• Spot clean other liquid spills by blotting with clear, mild soap and distilled water. Follow by wiping the area with a clean, undyed, soft cloth dampened with distilled water. Avoid scrubbing and allow to air dry.
• Avoid using harsh cleaners or solvents, abrasives, corrosive chemicals, or care products containing ammonia or silicone, as these could leave marks or cause damage.
• Do not use upholstery or leather cleaner or conditioner on suede, nubuck, or napped leathers, as these could cause damage.
Crypton® Home Performance Fabrics
• Crypton Home Performance Fabrics can be cleaned using clear, mild detergent and water. Do not bleach.
• For tough stains, rub with a soft brush. Blot with a clean towel, rinsing thoroughly; let air dry.
Crypton® Home Performance Leather
• Immediately blot soiled Crypton Home Performance Leather with a clean cloth to remove any liquid or debris.
• Gently spot clean using a solution of mild soap and water. Rinse with distilled water and blot dry.
• If any soiling remains, apply a recommended household cleaner directly to the spot. Gently wipe clean with a soft, undyed cloth using a circular motion without too much downward force. Rinse with distilled water, blot dry, then allow to air dry completely. Repeat this process as needed. We recommend cleaning with a 5% diluted bleach solution (two tablespoons bleach per one quart of water).
Performance Fabrics
• Before spot cleaning performance fabric, blot-up any excess liquid with a clean, undyed cloth.
• To clean small stains, mix one cup of water with ¼ teaspoon of clear detergent. Spray spots and blot with a clean, undyed cloth.
• Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any cleaning solution and allow to air dry.
Faux Leather
• Faux leather can be spot cleaned using mild soap and water. Wipe dry immediately.
• Do not over-saturate your faux leather or use solvents to clean. Do not use leather cleaner and conditioner, as these could cause damage.
Hair on Hide
• Hair on hide should be lightly vacuumed using your vacuum’s upholstery attachment.
• You can spot clean dirt or stains from hair on hide using a nonmetallic, soft-bristle brush and a mixture of clear, mild soap and water.
WOOD & WICKER
General Care
• Our wood collections are sealed with lacquer, adding a protective (but not indestructible) barrier, and can be easily spot cleaned using mild soap, water, and a soft, undyed cloth as needed. Dry immediately to prevent marks from forming.
• Occasionally dust lacquered wood surfaces with a soft, dry cloth and non-wax furniture polish to keep finishes looking their best.
• Gently polish any glass components with glass cleaner. Wipe clean with a soft cloth.
• For best results, follow instructions for all cleaning products carefully and do not over apply. Do not use abrasives, harsh, corrosive chemicals, or care products containing ammonia or silicone, as these could damage finishes and surfaces.
• To prevent moisture damage (like water rings), wipe up spills immediately with a soft, dry, undyed cloth.
• Protect surfaces from incidental marks (like scratching, scorching, and water stains) by using coasters, trivets, felt pads, and non-plastic mats. Never place hot dishes or equipment directly on wood surfaces.
• When assembling wood furniture, avoid overtightening hardware as this could cause cracking.
• Always lift your wood furniture when moving it. Do not drag your furniture, as this could loosen joinery and cause damage.
• Avoid placing indoor furniture in direct sunlight or near sources of heat or moisture, as this could cause cracking or changes in finishes.
• Ensure your furniture sits in a level position, as frames may warp if standing on an uneven surface.
• Do not lean back in chairs and avoid using chair stretchers or table pedestals as footrests.
Caring For Specialty Wood
Laminate Wood
• Laminate surfaces are both durable and easy to care for. Simply remove dirt and spills with a soft, damp cloth, and dry immediately to prevent water marks.
Reclaimed & Antique Wood
• Because these pieces are curated from original sources around the world, they may require special care. (But they’re worth it—trust us.)
• Carefully dust surfaces with a soft, dry, undyed cloth to remove any particles or loose dirt.
• Maintain the wood’s beauty by occasionally applying a furniture wax. We recommend applying wax in small sections along the wood’s grain.
• After the wax has dried, buff surfaces to achieve the sheen you desire.
Hand-Painted Wood
• Our hand-painted collections can be easily dusted with a soft, clean, undyed cloth.
• Maintain the beauty of your hand-painted finishes by occasionally applying a natural and transparent beeswax.
Rattan & Handwoven Wicker
• Woven wicker can be spot cleaned with a damp cloth.
• Dust occasionally with a soft, dry cloth and non-wax furniture polish to keep finishes looking their best.
• Vacuum occasionally to remove loose dirt, dust, and other particles.
• Do not stand on rattan or handwoven wicker seats.
